Hidden Gems
Dagana
A rarely visited dzongkhag of steep hills and citrus orchards
About Dagana
Tucked into the southern foothills, Dagana dzongkhag is one of the least-visited corners of Bhutan, reached via a winding mountain road rather than any major touring circuit. Its steep, terraced hillsides are planted with oranges, cardamom and areca nut, and the dramatic Dagana Dzong sits on a ridge overlooking the Daga Chhu valley. With almost no tourist infrastructure, Dagana offers a rare look at everyday rural Bhutanese life away from any itinerary.
