Eastern Bhutan

Trashigang

The historic heart of far-eastern Bhutan

About Trashigang

Trashigang is the largest dzongkhag in eastern Bhutan and a historic trading hub on the old route to Tibet and Assam. Trashigang Dzong sits dramatically above the Drangme Chhu river, and the surrounding hills are dotted with villages known for their basket-weaving and traditional crafts. As the easternmost major town on Bhutan's lateral highway, Trashigang marks the start of the country's wildest, least-developed frontier districts.
