About Samtse

Bordering West Bengal in Bhutan's far southwest, Samtse dzongkhag is a low-lying, subtropical region quite different in climate and culture from the high Himalayan valleys further north. It is one of the country's main areas for tea, cardamom and citrus cultivation, with a notable ethnic Nepali-Bhutanese (Lhotshampa) population. The tropical, monsoon-influenced landscape and warm hospitality make Samtse a distinctive, rarely visited corner of the kingdom.
