Remote and rugged, Lhuntse dzongkhag in the far northeast is the ancestral home of Bhutan's royal family, centred on the imposing Lhuntse Dzong overlooking the Kuri Chhu river. The dzongkhag is famed for Kishuthara, an intricately woven silk textile considered among the finest in the kingdom, produced in villages like Khoma. Beyond textiles, Lhuntse's high alpine north borders Tibet and offers some of Bhutan's most untouched trekking country.
