About Samdrup Jongkhar

Sitting on the Indian border with Assam, Samdrup Jongkhar is Bhutan's southeastern gateway and an alternative overland entry/exit point for travellers connecting onward to Guwahati. The lowland border town gives way quickly to forested hills, and the dzongkhag is home to several important Nyingma and Drukpa Kagyu monasteries. It's a practical rather than scenic stop, mainly used by travellers crossing between northeast India and central/eastern Bhutan.
