Trongsa

The ancestral seat of Bhutan's monarchy

About Trongsa

Perched dramatically on a ridge above the Mangde Chhu gorge, Trongsa is home to the largest dzong in Bhutan and the traditional seat from which the country's monarchy was founded — every Bhutanese king has served as Trongsa Penlop before ascending the throne. The dzongkhag sits at the geographic centre of the country, making it a natural crossroads between western and eastern Bhutan. The adjoining Ta Dzong watchtower now houses a museum dedicated to the monarchy's history.
