About Paro

Paro is the gateway to Bhutan for most travellers, its valley framed by pine-forested hills and the Paro Chhu river. Beyond the airport, Paro is rich in history — from the imposing Rinpung Dzong to Kyichu Lhakhang, one of the oldest temples in the kingdom. Towering above the valley is Taktsang, the legendary Tiger's Nest Monastery, perched on a sheer cliff at 3,120 metres. The valley's wide floodplain is dotted with traditional farmhouses, rice and apple orchards, and offers some of the best short hikes in the country alongside Bhutan's National Museum.
